Now first of all... I am not a Fugitive Recovery Agent/Bounty Hunter/Recovery Agent or whatever you want to be referred to as......... however.... I am a licensed bondsman and can, I think, give you some 'pertinent' (another big word like mayonnaise) advice from my standpoint as to "HOW TO GET A JOB AS AN FRA" or how to approach a bondsman for some work....

Listed 'more or less' in their importance:
"DO NOT QUIT YOUR DAY JOB"

1. make the contact in person... forget the phone for now....
2. be professional
a. in your appearance
b. in your actions
c. in your approach
d. in you language
3. have all your necessary documentation in hand along with any references you may have from past work
4. be persistent, go back several times and just let them know you are interested in working "for them"
5. show a definite interest in that particular bondsman
6. be truthful and to the point, do not waste his time

Bondsmen as a general rule will stick with a very small number, sometimes only one, FRA and often they will do their own recovery to save money. They may employ outside help in cases of large bonds that are a problem and are very wary of FRA people that approach them.

This business is filled with "wanna-be's" and "cowboys" that have no clue how to make a pickup and/or just interested in getting into this business for the ..... excitement.... and bondsmen are very much aware of this fact and are extremely wary of new approaches... I would wear a suit... do not show up in 511's or any other tactical gear... at least not at my office... if you want to look like "Swat" get a job with the local department... that is my take and may not be the rule with other bondsmen but this is from my perspective...

You have to get past the simple fact that landing a job with an established bonding company is extremely difficult, but not impossible... but persistence and professionalism are basically your main options... keep at it and when you do get a job... do it to the best of your ability in a legal and upright manner and remain professional at all times. That first job if done right will lead you into the field and provide a stepping stone and reference to the next... and the next

and last but not least: "DO NOT QUIT YOUR DAY JOB"

Bill,
I'd use the approach where I show up at your place wearing a Hawaiian shirt, shorts, and tactical sandals. I'd carry a fishing pole and a six pack. Then ask you if you wanted to go bass fishing and talk Karate and guns.

Now Bill, if i squeeze into this suit in the back of my closet and put on this choking tie and those crippling hard shoes and show up at your door and get turned down, I'm going to be heart broken!!!

Angela,
H_ll no! After seeing some of Bill's pictures on here, I was hoping Bill would see me as kind of a "minny me". Plus, I can't run worth a crap in cowboy boots carrying a 20lb can of pepper spray strapped to my leg!
