There are 2 legislation bills to eliminate private ( surety ) bail in CA. Yesterday the Assembly Bill AB42 which is almost identical to the Senate Bill SB10, failed by one vote.
SB10 is still alive and will be voted on in a couple weeks.
Even if they are both killed, there is talk of letting the voters decide on them as a referendum. And the general public is very dumb and most likely would approve.

In California, SB10 a bill that will simply put private bail out of business is up for a vote on July 11th in the Senate Public Safety Committee. If it is approved there it goes to full senate for a vote there.
Once it clears the Senate it goes to the Assembly for their vote, then on to he Governor to sign it in to law.
The bail associations have put up a good fight, better than I thought. However the "society do gooders" are relentless and are well organized with scare stories.
In my opinion, bail will lose in the end. If not this year, in the very near future.
