Assembly Bill No. 3828 (3R) requires bounty hunters to be regulated by the State Police. Bounty hunters currently are unregulated. Under the provisions of the bill, an applicant for a bounty hunter license must complete the State Police application, pass a criminal history record background check and pay a fee and execute a bond in amounts established by rule and regulation.

The bill also requires that bounty hunters have at least five years of law enforcement experience as a law enforcement officer with an organized law enforcement agency, or at least five years experience as a licensed private detective. As amended by the Senate, the bill also offers bounty hunters with at least five years experience prior to the bill's effective date a 60-day window to apply to the superintendent to be licensed as a bounty hunter.

This Senate amendment requires those applicants, who do not possess law enforcement or private detective experience, to complete a training program established by the superintendent prior to being licensed as a bounty hunter.

It is the Legislature's intent that the education and training program required in this amendment is substantially similar to the requirements of states in proximity to New Jersey which offer training for bounty hunters.

This sounds pretty good...in fact it might help weed out the overnights. Like the Law Enforcement or PI background as well as the 60 day deal for prior BEA's with experience. Seems pretty good unless I am missing something

the fight was hard won by yak and his cadre of people only by sheer will and perserveriance did they succeed in this huge undertaking--they took on 2 very influential state reps and pounded them into dust


I SAY AGAIN GOOD JOB PEOPLE---this is what a group of motivated people can accomplish--we need to do the same everywhere we are threatened

What about the BEA'S who have less than 5 years but already have taken the courses and have been doing this with no problems at all. It doesn't seem fair to them because now they are out of a job.

Seems like it is in the bill. You will have to take a course approved by the superintendant.

Again the age old situation -who certified the certifiers-did you take courses from a recoginized school ie nabea, nibe or joes plumbing and bea school--I believe that the state will set ciriculem requirements and most of the real schools will meet them and be certified by the state and than your certificate should be accepted--if you took a fly by night course you should take an accepted course--this will help the wannabee's and a-sholes out of this business----again i say any 2, 3, 4, 5 day or 1 month course is not enough to teach this subject but it is a start i would like to see mentoring part of the course requirement
