Judge Gives 60 Days For Repeated Sexual Assault On Girl
Officials Call Man Low Risk For Repeat

UPDATED: 3:29 pm EST January 5, 2006

BURLINGTON, Vt. -- A Williston, Vt., man who admitted to repeatedly raping a young girl will spend two months behind bars.

Mark Hulett, 34, will spend 60 days in prison for sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl for the last four years, Burlington television station WPTZ reported.

When he pleaded guilty in August to two counts of aggravated sexual assault and one charge of lewd and lascivious conduct with a child, Hulett faced up to life in prison on the charges. But the state Corrections Department determined that Hulett was a low risk for committing a similar crime, and said it would not offer sex-offender treatment while he was in prison.

Judge Edward Cashman defended his sentence, saying it was the only way to provide counseling for the Hulett. Cashman's sentence could incarcerate Hulett for the rest of his life if he fails to obtain counseling once he is freed.

The victim's family said the sentence is just a slap on the wrist.

Gentleman....being a former LEO, a present tracker of the wrong doers, and now a father with a daughter that has been a victim, this makes me sick, but remember KARMA. The criminals also have a code of their own and this particular crime as well as any upon the elderly do not sit well within the walls of cells. IF the population knows of his true reason for being incarcerated, this POS will suffer jailhouse justice.

kheely66,
Though I can't speak for Vermont, I can speak for NH and MA.

I wish I could agree with you, but as a retired CO, those days are almost numbered in the "progressive" Northeast.

MCI Walpole (formerly the MAX and toughest prison in the state) is now so heavily populated with skinners and diddlers, that self respecting cons risk their own life when trying to do "the right thing".

When I worked at NH State Prison something like 75% of our gen pop were sex offenders. We had 2 units out of 6 (maybe 8, can't recall) that held no sex offenders because the molesters would kill them!

These child molesters band together and form their own "gangs" for self preservation. So we can no longer count on "jailhouse justice".

On a side note, while in NH, I got detailed out to watch a molester who DID get "tuned up" and was in intensive care. As I was sitting next to the bed, all these bells and whistles started going off and the heart monitor was flatlining. I just sat there. A nurse came running in and screamed at me "Why didn't you call for help!?!". I stood up, put my hand on my firearm, looked her straight in the eye and said "Because he may be faking all this and trying to escape!" She looked horrified, but the rest of the ICU actually started laughing while they "worked" on the "patient".

Funny, he did not make it, I still "wonder" why.

I am sure justice will find the man that did this or the father will.
