That is sad !! As any NC Bondsman that has been in business 10 minutes can tell you, if that were to happen here, the folks that presented that scheme to the courts would be arrested and forget about ever being in this business again. As it should be.
I's BS like that that hurts us all !!

Should have said "any Bondsman" not just "NC Bondsman"

Supposedly the bondsman on the case believed what the family sent him. He or she did not actually go to Mexico for the funeral.
In fact, the motion in court to exonerate was done by an attorney that specializes in bail law. He was duped too.
There have been faked accidents with death, murders, and death by natural causes such as heart attacks.
All the skip has to do is pay off the right people and they can get a death certificate, police report, even obits in a local newspaper.
Be very careful with bailing Mexican nationals.

Tony,
I've never posted bond for one but have "chased" several. In fact I chased one to Puebla, Mexico. My client wasn't too happy with me on that one. To clarify, he went to Puebla where he remains to this day. I have his address and phone number... Heck, I call him from time to time. Waiting for him to sneak back over the border. I use the indemnitor's phone. My client now owns the indemnitor's car and truck but doesn't come close to covering the bond. I did apprehend his Brother, however.

As some of you know Insurance is trying to take over the bail industry here. Scott you are right about Profesional Bail Company's such as mine are 100% responsible if ANYTHING happens. But I prefer that over giving 30% to an Insurance co. and 20% into a BUF account. Because of that I believe in what you and all of the others tought me when I first joined this site years ago as a bondsman, "wright tight paper".
Right now only one county will allow property to be used, but the rest is a $25,000 escrow account in mine and the Circuit Clerks name in each county. (Soon to be $50,000 per county, OUCH!) Some say I'm just lucky not having to pay off anymore forfietures than we have. $3500 out of 5 countys since I took over at the end of 2005. Now that I am an owner it is a little more stressful knowing that there is always a "what if" we miss one. But that's why I allocate a percentage of every bond to go into my own BUF (savings account).
I believe in TRAINING, TRAINING and more TRAINING. When one of my bondsman sign a bond, that's the beginning of that bond, not the end. With having higher risk checking in and every single person is contacted 3 to 4 days before court to let them know, "we haven't forgot about you so you don't forget about court." If we can't get them by phone, that's when the search begins.
We don't have many skips but no system is perfect.
and that's my HO

Jay, You are coming to Las Vegas, right? I will show you the least labor intensive way to monitor your bail clients for $15.00 per month, and if they skip, it will help you catch them.
Besides, I want to see your wife and son again...

Jay that is a good idea. Bring the whole family Vegas.
In fact, all you men and women in the south east need to come to Vegas to get away from all the bad weather for awhile!
