This tragic case was profiled on America's Most Wanted.

If memory serves me correct, the victim had about 30 or so arrests and was a licensed bail bond company owner.

I seriously doubt that the defense will be able to find any reputable industry pro who would be willing to testisfy on the shooter's behalf, and I also doubt that the prosecuting attorney(s) would have any problems getting reputable industry pros to testify for the People.

The trade is filled with risks, and this sad fact is sometimes lost.

It was profiled on AMW but, I thought the guy had just become a BEA about 6 months earlier.

The Agent in question was a 20 something rookie..period. No schools, no training, no anything...One day he just hung out his shingle as a bounty hunter..period.

This is partially why he is dead now. Tactically and objectively speaking, this particular BEA killed himself. He did not check in with the local sheriff's dpt. because here it is not required; He did not have qualified back up, he did not use better tactics and strategies to lure the fugitive out, etc...as Hadley said, this was not written to point out the BEA's mistakes, but more importantly to simply inform the member's of this forum what is happening in the industry in this neck of the woods.

I have stated many times to other's in this field whenever this topic has arisen that the BEA is dead due to his own inexperience, lack of training, and his own ego..buying into the "I'm a bad ass bounty hunter macho image".

If that had been me on that case, I would have done my local leo check in, asked for leo assistance; if refused, then I would have deployed my team and used whatever other means available to draw the fugitive out. We all know that any number of differing things could have been done.

However, all of the 'Monday morning quarterbacking" is not going to change the facts: 1) the BEA is dead-Killed in the line of duty 2) The court appointed lawfirm is using every tactic available in an attempt to either get thier client completely off, a reduced sentence, or perhaps some sort of plea bargain.

There are also politics involved here, and more to this story than I have explained. Due to the circumstances surrounding this case and my own personal involvement, I do not think it wise for me to say anymore than I already have. I am subjected to the possibility of having to testify in this trial for one side or the other...so I cannot afford to write anything that may be used in this trial.

Everything that I have already written has already been published, many times over, in other places. To expand beyond that would be to possibly cause problems for me down the road.

Anyway, I hope new people entering this field will read this and get an idea of just how dangerous this business really is.

So far this year 1 of my associates was stabbed and nearly died; another 1 was fired upon in Eastern Tn; one of our people from here was sliced with a boxcutter; These are just the 3 that I know about...this doesn't include all of my "close encounters of the deadly kind".

It's not fun and games out here people...Like Hadley has said many times, if you aren't ready to kill..then get out or find something else to do.

Wow! All I stated was that in the AMW piece it said that he had only been doing this for about 6 months. I have not seen anything written to the contrary and I could be totally wrong. I am not sure who is doing the Monday Morning Quaterbacking we were all just responding to your original post with comments about who would have done what.

I can see from your post this is getting you all fired up. Do not let the lawyers get to you, you and all of us know it is just a game to them. If you have to go to court you will do us all proud!

My apologies if you think I am "fired up"..quite the contrary..I am merely continuing this discourse. Nothing more, nothing less. It is easy to misinterpret things online as common indicators such as tone of voice, body language, voice inflection are all absent.

Anyway, wishing each of you a safe and prosperous day !

Take care and God Bless,

Ruffin.

Okay, maybe I didn't remember too well  or the information I recalled was somehow skewed....at any rate, I appreciate Ruffin's clarifications.

While indeed tragic, I can find no fault in discussing the incident for the purpose of hopefully reaching those who have not considered what could happen out there and to encourage proper tactics.

Thanks Hadley,

This is happening in a town app. 75 miles due east of me, in another county entirely. So as long as I stay on this side of the county line I should be ok...lol

The prosecutor is going for 1st degree murder; they have a very strong case that the fug's actions were premeditated, and the fugitive did have the opportunity to surrender, so basically there is no defense for him. The defense lawyer is simply doing his job..which is to provide his client with the ebst possible legal service he can give.

Now I don't much care for lawyer's myself...but remember the defense lawyer is court appointed..he had no choice but to defend the accused. He even openly admitted to me that he knows he will lose.

Anyway, thanks for everything.

Ruffin.

I aplogize to you Ruffin, I guess I should have used the term "Passionate" about this thread.

Just remember the lawyers are nothing more than ..... well it was a shame that the bus had a couple of empty seats. I can say this, my mother is a lawyer (judge) 3 uncles and 2 cousins are lawyers also.
