I think it can have several different meanings... I heard it from my father a long time ago.

Personally what it means to me is to not go rushing into things, if one thinks before he acts he can gain more than he realizes... also one can see the "whole" tree rather than just the leaf.

The young bull had tunnel vision, all he could see was the one aspect of a situation and therefore thrust (no pun intended) all of his energies into that one goal, not realizing that he was selling himself short (again no pun intended). The older bull, through benefit of experience and wisdom clearly saw the bigger (damn they just keep coming LOL no pun intended) picture.

I'm not sure if I put that adequately... been up since 1200 hours tuesday and am currently on shift now (1800 to 0600), that's my excuse for lack of clarity LOL.

I accept LE assistance whenever offered. Especially since I do most of my out of state investigations by myself. I always check in with local Leo's, ask them to verify my warrants, confirm that my fugitive is in NCIC, and then ask them to check for local warrants as well. If a local hit comes back then it gives them a motive for assisting me.

Like Steve said, it doesn't matter who actually cuffs the fugitive, I still get paid. If the local LE keeps my guy, I just have them sign a "body tag"..aka prisoner reciept form stating that john doe fugitive is now in thier custody. I return that document to my bondsman so he can show it to the judge for exoneration.

Often times this can even be accomplished by telephone on out of state skips.

I have gotten fairly good at contacting LE fugitive squads and cultivating a professional rapport with an investigator. I then send him/her all of the case intel, including the NCIC warrant #, and asking them to check whatever address I have out. It's a win-win situation. They get credit for a felony arrest, the bondsman gets exonerated, and I get paid.

This method has helped me to establish personal credibility with multiple jurisdictions in various states. Upon case closure, I usually send the police chief or sheriff some sort of thank you letter or certificate of appreciation. This is all a part of doing pr and possibly opening up relationships with LE's that previously were reluctant to assist us.

It's all about respecting the badge, and thier jurisdictions. Plus I don't have to travel, chase anyone, fight anyone, kick down any doors, or possibly shoot anyone. It totally reduces my liability.

It works for me...:)

Take care and God Bless,

Ruffin.

Hey Bob!

Actually I'm still down here... I just got that cable to hook up my laptop to my cell phone. Doesn't work the greatest but I really don't want to buy a cell card and have to get another service through cingular.

They still don't have phone, water, or full electric where I am at LOL.

Good luck to you, Don.

My hubby leaves for Iraq in about 3 weeks. He used prior experience to get on with Halliburton working at a water plant. The money's great and it's tax free.

Thanks Kathy,

The same to your husband... it's good money over there, just gotta keep one's head down. (I hear starting 8 to 9 hundred per day for companies like blackwater).

I'm looking at my wall-mounted Universal Planner where the particulars of various bail skips can be ascertained at-a-glance.

A number of them are looking at 25-to-life under 3-Strikes with histories of violence to include one that pulled a knife on a client.

A couple were allowed to 'get their affairs in order' after being told that they would be spending some time in prison when they come back for sentencing (figure that one out).

I was recently told that one skip turned and shot a bullet at another investigator during a foot-chase.

Another BEA told me that he was looking for one who is supected of murder just after being bailed out for allegedly beating a man to death.

Some agencies in my AO will be glad to respond while others simply will not as a matter of policy.

Attempting to arrest such people when law enforcement assistance is denied is a choice for the individual BEA.

If a BEA decides to go forward with an arrest attempt (Rob Dick and Zeke Unger have been shown on TV with Shotguns and others have also displayed various types of heavy defensive firearms) that is considered high-risk, perhaps something other than pepper spray and Taser is called for provided that one is not prohibited by law from carrying a firearm while working.

Whatever the choice, no commission is worth getting into a bad situation if such a situation can be avoided, in my opinion.

Rex
