I have had a interesting situation come up and I wanted to get some input on what to do. I recently worked with another fugitive recovery agent here in Oklahoma. While working with him he made several comments that concerned me about him stealing from peoples homes. After a while I started having the suspicion that he was stealing but I couldn't prove it. Just a few days ago while placing a subject in custody, the agent in question did an unwarranted search of the vehicle of the fugitive's friend. After we turned over the fugitive to the PD, he proceeded to tell me he took pepper spray out of the friend's car. He called me the next morning and informed me that he had sold 2 stolen guns. I believe those guns were also stolen from the car.
So the question I pose is what would you do in this situation?
My solution was to terminate my involvement with this individual and to call the police department and inform them of the situation of the stolen guns.

At that point, he should have been terminated and a written affidavit submitted to the Department of Insurance explaining why? I think that would have covered your position on the matter.

Not totally true Kitty. The illegal BEA could have been a "plant" from 1 of the police agencies who may have been running a "sting" operation to see which BEA's were legit and which one's weren't.

Same concept Interal Affairs investigators apply to allegedly corrupt jails/police officers. Often times they will orchestrate the arrest of a UC in order to get them placed inside the facility/operation in order to gather 1st hand evidence against thier target.

A factual case in point: The movie starring Robert Redford as Warden Brubaker. He personally went into the prison as an inmate so he could see for himself just how corrupt and out of control his prison really was. Eventually he revealed himself, assumed command of the prison, and initiated some much needed reforms. Unfortunately, because he wasn't a politician, he was later fired by his superiors on trumped up allegations that were designed strictly to have him removed.

1 thing for you and everyone else to ALWAYS bear in mind: Things aren't always what they seem...

Turn him in report it to the bonding company and stay away from him. He could turn it on you and say you were involved and helped in the thefts.

You should report the matter to the law enforcement agency in the area these alleged criminal acts occured. Let law enforcement make the call as to if they want to conduct an investigation. Always protect yourself first. As RWB said it maybe a test of your honesty, the only thing that you really have in this life is your good name. Do not let some azzhole damage it.

Thank you all for your replies. The incident has been reported. All bondsmen and bondswomen that I work with are aware of the situation. They know I am no longer associated with this person and the reasons why.
I never thought about him being a "plant". It is a possibility but I believe highly unlikely with this particular individual. You would just have to meet him to understand why I say this.

I am on my way out the door, but I plan on posting an introduction soon and hopefully becoming a more active part of this forum. I believe that you all have a wealth of knowledge to share.

GUT INSTINCT. I think you did the right thing. You seem to want some comfort by coming to the forum members. Stick with these guys and gals and you will be OK. Turning the other agent in is the right thing. That guy just jeopardized your income regardless of how much it is, your freedom and criminal record, your reputation, and probably your family's well-being. I know if anybody endangers my wife and kid's livelihood, I'm going to hurt them. You did right. Keep away from this guy and stay honest.
