Post subject: Question on certifications in the state of PA Posted: Sat 21 Feb 2009 14:31 |

I have been looking into becoming certified and licensed in the state of Pennsylvania as a recovery agent and also getting my Act 235 as well.
I have two questions. The first is will a misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct on my record from about 10 years ago affect me being able to become licensed. I have read some things online that say a person can not have a felony record. Will this have any affect on getting my Act 235 as well?
And my second question is if there is anyone who could recommend and reputable school in Western PA to become certified and licensed.
Thank you in advance for any information or help.

It's pretty much the same everywhere...no felony recond for BEA work. I'd start by looking more into your state laws...Call JG Marshall...he's on this forum

PA. Act 235 - Lethal Weapons Training
"No person who pleads nolo contendre to an act of violence"
You should be ok with that.
Additionally, there aren't any licensing or certification process in the state of Pa. for BEA, FRA, Bounty Hunter etc. but I would still try and take a good course, preferrably from the following list:
N.I.B.E: http://www.bounty-hunter.net/
National Association of Bail Enforcement Agencies: http://www.nabea.org/
Pennsylvania Tactical Training Center: http://ntabea.com/
If you have any other questions, fell free to contact me.

Hi Rooster!
Bondgrl, is right, you cannot have Felony records in this business at all. Check your States Laws for requirements needed to proceed with your endevers. There is a ton of information for you to read in the "FAQ" forum, this will help as well.

Thanks so much for the information and replies. Glad to know that a "stupid mistake" on my part years back won't effect me if I decide to pursue this further. I'd assume since I had an NCIC back round check done for the fire department then I would be OK, but wanted to get the answer from folks already in the profession.
Marshall, Thank you for the links, I'll check them out. While I know it is not required that I be licensed or certified I'd feel better knowing what my boundaries are have some type of training and I also appreciate the offer to contact you if I have any other questions
