Beth Smith (a/k/a Beth Barmore, a/k/a Alice Elizabeth Barmore) faced the following charges in Jefferson County, Colorado under case number 2002-cr-000080: 18-3-207(1)(A)(B)(I) Extortion-Unlawful Act F418-3-303, False Imprisonment M218-5-102 (1) (c), Forgery- Check/Commercial Instrument F518-3-207 (1)(a)(b)(l), Extortion-Unlawful Act-CSP F518-3-303 and False Imprisonment-CSP M3.
The charges originated on October 19, 2001 from the alleged detention of a female bond client named Kimberley Pierce. It was alleged that Ms. Pierce did not pay the entire premium on her bond so Beth Barmore, accompanied by a person identified as Mary Angell, brought Ms. Pierce to their bail bond office and allegedly made her call people to raise the money or her bail will be revoked. One of the calls Ms. Pierce made was to her attorney who, in turn, called the Edgewater, Colorado police. The police dispatched a unit to the bail bond office, conducted a preliminary investigation and filed the afore-outlined complaints against Barmore and Angell.
It is rumored the complaints were dismissed under a condition Ms. Barmore/Smith surrender her bail license to the State of Colorado's Insurance Department though this has not been confirmed.
The bail agencies we contract with in the northeast do not take partial payments on bail bonds. A strict 10% up front payment is required.
We also do not revoke a bail under RSA 597:27 without absolute proof such revocation is warranted and justified.
