First off, if you are carrying concealed, nobody should know that you are, if they do, you need proper training.
Second, most states have concealed carry restrictions, such as no places that serve alcohol, no schools, no court houses or jails etc.
Third, states that have open carry laws leave the option for a proprietor to not allow open carry in their store, place of business etc.
Now for some thought provoking discussion:
If you point a weapon at anyone other than your target, that is assault. When you confront someone, you get a confrontation. Patience equals profit, hitting a house absent the requisite surveillance will only provide a 40% capture rate. 40% success rate will drive you out of business quickly. If your target presets an exceptional risk, conduct your investigation and brief LE to handle the take down. Properly prepared and presented investigations lead to good relationships and respect from LE as well as future success and cooperation. Lastly, just because someone on television gets away with committing an offense or multiple offenses, does not make it right. We all have made mistakes in the field and gotten away with it, don't learn the wrong lesson.
Stay safe,
Scott

There is an old business adage that states "50% of what you get correct will be recognized by 50% of others, while 100% of what you get wrong will be recognized by 100% of others." Doing things as right as you possibly can will get you a higher positive recognition rate. As usual, great leadership by Mr. MacLean.

I hold a CCW and i carry all the time i have carried a weapon for 27 years both as a civilan and in the military this choice is mine and mine alone i have had to use my weapon in my own defense 1 time and i will tell you this you will never forget the situation and you will never quit asking your self what if. so what im trying to say is if you decide to carrry a weapon for any reason you MUST ask yourself this question am i capable and trained to use this tool responsably and effectivly. can I actully take anothers life. just going out and buying a weapon then obtaining the required permits is not enough you need to seek out all opportunitys for training. and if you are going to carry in this biz then you surly need retenion training your weapons training is an ongoing process this is a consumable talent without continual practice you are not proficent. just my humble opinion

Ok.... here's my take on the subject. I have several CCP... one with the county I live in, which I have had for many years... one with DCJS for my bond business and several in other states (non resident) that allow me to carry in other states. Florida and Nevada have reciprocity agreements with many other states whereas Va. is limited to only neighboring states. Some states do not allow non resident carry... like Maryland and South Carolina... and the laws governing carry rules is so varied that you need to read about the state you live in to be sure of what/how/why/where.... I owned and operated a legal gun shop for a number of years... till I figured out that is was just as cheap for me to buy at gun shows than wholesale and besides... I never made any real money in the gun business... mainly cause once I bought a gun... I didn't want to sell it....... dddduuuuhhhhhh??? (It was really a hobby) FFL's open you up to all sorts of scrutiny by some very... shall we say slick and covert... government agencies... so... I gave up my FFL some years ago... BATF is not a group you want to piss off or even draw attention to yourself from.... (good advice) Frankly, I don't usually carry at all... my simple take on guns is this... it is a tool just like an umbrella... if it rains its good to have... but even if it ain't raining... you might want to have one handy... just in case. The weather changes quickly!! I have never drawn or pointed a gun at a person that I was apprehending... I try and keep things on a ... shall we say... lower lever than a gun would bring... a gun places your relationship immediately at a dangerous level and it is much easier IMHO... to apprehend someone using 'hands on' ... if I feel that a weapon is going to be needed... I call in the big boys... and I stand back and let them do the job... I have several friends that are former 'Seals' and they make "Dog" look like 'Cinderella' (sorry I brought that up but frankly... I think Cinderella makes Dog look like Cinderella... just had to say that... ) Anyway, some of the most highly qualified LE people I know have never drawn their guns in a confrontation... of course, that can always change in a flash of the moment.... as Kathy said... we all usually have one pretty damn close at hand.... just in case it rains. Here are several links to pages that might provide you with a little more info... http://www.handgunlaw.us/http://www.gunlaws.com/links/http://www.nraila.org/GunLaws/
