Angela, If I am reading this correctly, all of your insurance premium is paid to the insurance company and then they pay you your commissions? Doesn't this make you an employee? The way I read it, they are also phasing out all property or professional bondsmen as well.

Still considered sub-contractors, but the state is trying to get rid of those who are doing things wrong..i.e. undercutting. We get paid by our GA. Gonna bite, but if this is what it takes, I'm all for it. No more soliciting in court, police departments, etc. This has always been a problem here. I refuse to do a bond for less than what the State says I can charge. I've had people come up to me and say "well, this is all I am going tp pay.." I tell them it doesn't work that way... It's going to get very interesting around here pretty soon...

Good luck. It seems to me the more government sticks its nose into business, the worse it gets.
I personally wouldnt like those laws at all. And this is about as big of a cutthroat state as there is. It really pisses me off when states do away with private sureties in favor of insurance companies. It really torques my ass. Why should I be made to pay a percentage to an insurance company? What are they going to do? Im still liable for the bond and and any forfeitures. If it goes bad, Im still liable for expenses or paying the judegment. If I dont pay it, from what I have seen, the insurance company just drops the agent and pays a monkey, lawyer, to put it off forever or get them out of it.
If MO ever goes that route, Im most likely leaving for another line of work. Im not into working for fat cat insurance.

I believe the bill referred to above died in committee at the end of the last session.

Start at page 1 and look at the brackets on the left. You'll see where it says "effective Oct 1". Then scroll all the way to the bottom where you'll see the new additions. I spoke to a few people involved at the upper level and confirmed this as true.
