A few corrections to the Fox story.

California dos NOT license bail fugitive recovery agents, neither does Florida license bounty hunters.

CA only requires a total of 60 hours of education and in Florida you have to be a Surety Agent.

I noticed that much of the information about licensing in different states was lacking or incorrect. None of that information came from me or the NAFRA. I did say that a lot of the legislation concerning licensing, regulations etc... was passed as a knee jerk reaction after the incident in AZ back in 97, that turned out to not even be bounty hunters. I'm all for regulation and licensing but it also needs to be practical and workable.

Agreed.

Many people think California has tough licensing requirements. In fact it is really is a joke with little or no actual recovery training.

Very little of the 20 hours of bail education covers fugitive recovery and none of the 40 hours of P.O.S.T. training, which is the entry level police officer training, cover bail recovery at all.
