Why is it so many of us deal with bail fugitives who have some type of weapon yet Chapman never seems to encounter an armed fugitive? Hawaii must be a real safe place to live even when dealing with fleeing fugitives.

I think it's in their contract that allows all of this crap to be aired publicly that if they have a weapon it will prevent their being paid the stipend they probably get for playing along.

Also, Hawaii doesn't allow people to carry guns, so maybe the crooks are all law abiding in that manner...

On the same vein, Wisconsin told us that we couldn't use any weapon that was not humane. No real weapons, no tazers, only mace that was made from natural products and environmentally friendly. HUH??? We made the arrest there with 2 fingers in the guy's back. Boy was he mad when he turned around. Then he tried to tell us that if we took him it was kidnapping because WI doesn't recognize BEA. That is one state the cops are not always helpful but in both of our cases they were.

BTW, most of our bondsmen, including me, have our bondees sign a "Waiver of Extradition" at the time of the bond. This helps clear a lot of red tape in some states. It is also on the legal form that we and they sign if they legally get a consent to leave the state.

Kathy... I don't want to disillusion you but waivers of extradition are about as valid as used toilet paper. All it takes in one lawyer with more than ten brain cells to have it tossed out of court. The defendant will claim it was signed under duress because if they didn't sign it they would not have been admitted to bail. Even parole/probation defendants who sign a waiver have had it ruled invalid if they want to fight extradition. I've seen it happen time after time after time through the years. Don't count on it being a safe-hold.
