Post subject:  UPDATE: 9:325AM

Update: Hostage situation resolved at the scene by local police officers… Shooter/suspect was arrested and is presently in custody in Richmond. Identified as James Carr, age 20.

Following is quote from WWBT NBC 12, Richmond, Va. 9:20am
News story: “SWAT members were seen surrounding and entering a house on Joplin Avenue with guns drawn. It appears some neighbors close to the house have been evacuated and police say residents in the neighborhood have been told to stay indoors.
Police say they responded to a call from the 2000 block of Joplin Avenue around 2:20 a.m. A man who was found with gunshots wounds later died at the scene. Police have confirmed that the man was a bail bondsman who was looking for James Carr. Carr is wanted for a felony failure to appear in court.
Students attending Oak Grove-Bellemeade Elementary will be rerouted to the Arthur Ashe Center until further notice. This is because of an ongoing police standoff. Teachers and staff of Oak Grove-Bellemeade Elementary should also report to the Arthur Ashe Center.”

This news item has generated a lot of interest in the media around here… a well known bondsman in Richmond was interviewed on channel 12 last nite… I think he did a great job of setting the job line in a positive manner in front of the public… my daughter talked to him last nite and had a good conversation stemming from a bad situation…

My son got a call from another station this morning wanting to do an interview on a station out of another Virginia city… maybe we can get some good press out of a terrible occurrence. My boy was out looking for someone at the time and the station actually wanted to ride with him!!! He declined that but I think he is doing the interview. We have to try and put this thing in a better lite because we all know how these terrible occurrences can be turned against us in this business. My family at least is striving to make sure that we are cast in a positive lite.

I will say that the news coverage thus far in Richmond has been very positive toward Mr. Woolfolks business dealing in the community. He was well liked and respected and this at least is a positive spin that we all need. I feel very sorry for his family and friends and associates… as pointed out previously… we are in an unpredictable and often times risky business and sometimes bad people do stupid things that we have to deal with… we are not teaching Sunday school here…

Thats a true statement. Thats the reason I get suspicious anytime a bondsman starts talking about rehabing their clients.

When I first started in the business, my first General Agent told me to remember. These arent choirboys your dealing with. And to consider every word that comes out of their mouth and your competitions mouth, a LIE, until you can verify it.

He was exactly right.

I repeat this as I have many times..."WHEN YOU WRITE A BOND, YOU ARE ROLLING THE DICE." the most secure and truthful ones are the ones that will head for the hills.... INFORMATION IS THE BEST SOURCE OF SECURITY AND COLLATERAL IN THIS BUSINESS.
