Quote:
Adequate training might have caused Schulthies and the other bounty hunters to handle the operation differently, said Kevin Ratigan, owner of Special Operations Asset Recovery, a bail-recovery and private security company in Boise. Ratigan said he trains his agents to be less confrontational and to try to defuse what is already a stressful situation.

Ratigan said he was saddened when he learned of Clay’s death. “There’s no reason that anybody’s life should be taken over something as simple as a bail bond itself,” he said. “There’s always something else that can be done.”

These fallacious comments only have a propensity to foster the discord between law enforcement and the general public as it relates to what we really do in this industry. This is just a fool having his fifteen minutes of fame and promoting his business at the expense of someone else’s misfortune.

I concur with the hypothesis of article that training is paramount and oversight is needed. However in the event addressed it appears that the use of deadly force was warranted by the bail enforcement agent for his protection and or the protection of others. While I can’t speak with one hundred percent accuracy, I confident that no bondsman or bail enforcement agent goes on the hunt with the intent to kill a fugitive.

I spent a little over a year in the Boise area back in the early 60's... I found it to be the wild west then and probably hasn't changed a lot over the years... Boise is a pretty large city but outside the limits I found it to be rather wild....

I did like the potatoes and the Mormon girls... not in that particular order, however...
