http://www.macon.com/2011/04/11/1521202 ... posed.html Maybe someone from GA can comment, from what I can read & understand (isn't always that good), partnering with bail bondsmen would be an ideal solution should this come to fruition. I'm sure the sheriff's comment that he doesn't have the manpower to hunt down fugitives is true, I've heard plenty of times departments are cutting back, budget cuts, etc. Any thoughts? |

There are several issues: 1) crime is decreasing 2) the number of crimes committed vs. the number of people committing those crimes is not quantified 3) all issues can be culled down to money, I am worried about my budget not yours 4) there is a cause and effect ratio for every decision taken, but people have to be committed to the process 5) pretrial is a business, although they will refuse to admit that 6) local governments are broke and LE agencies are being culled down or eliminated completely 7) people are willing to fore go protection as a cost saving measure nobody addresses the true cost of recovering from such heinous decisions 9) what is saved by creating chaos and losing control of crime? 10) the true value of commercial bail is neither understood, comprehended or realized by those on the outside 11) Criminal trial lawyers think we are in competition with them, although pretrial is, and they don't see it 12) Sheriffs will be voted out of office if they lose control of warrants, which is beyond their control 13) an impersonal assessment would device a synergy of services between private and public sectors Scott |

I see the same issues that Mr Maclean has listed. This does seem to open doors for Certifed recovery Agents, though. The last time I spoke with the President of the GAPB, he stated that there are over 900 people certified for recovery work, in the state of Georgia. That nimber has increased by an average of 80 people per year for the last 3 years. There is not enough work in Georgia for 900 Agents. This would open the door for new jobs for someone. Other than that positive, I do not like the idea.....but this was the first I had heard of it. We hear these ideas so often, around here, with them never becoming actual that I just do not listen when I hear it. |

The article only referred to bondsman acting as home detention monitors and said nothing about recovery work. Since there would be no bail contract, apprehension of a contempt of court charge for violating a court ordered home detention would still be the responsibility of law enforcement. The comment was suggested as an alternative, assumed to placate bondsmen who would be losing revenue to cash bail programs. Scott |

Home detention is what I was refering to (I am bad about making "blanket staements" with no follow up). I know of several agencies that already recieve income through this type of venture. The door would be open for more, were this to happen IMHO. Now, how many will actually be diligent in monitoring....that is the question. I don't know many that are on top of this, at the present. |

Interesting concept, however what agency is going to pay for this service. And will the bondsmen’s feet be held to the fire if the bandit skips. |
