http://www.nola.com/politics/index.ssf/ ... s_bus.html They're lumping bail bonds companies in with convenience stores and pawn shops? A little insulting IMHO, but maybe I'm taking it personally. I don't know the area, maybe they have a bail bondsman every couple of blocks? Or a pawn shop/bail bonds operation every few miles? |

I am sure every already existing Bail Bond Business is happy that no new companies will be able to open.. with new companies that open up shop that just means a smaller slice of the pie.. or maybe just some crumbs of that pie slice.... |

Gretna was where Louis Marcotte operated and was prosecuted along with a Sheriff and Judge. Long story, black eye on the industry, etc. So the city may have a predisposed opinion of our industry that is less than positive. Scott |

Scott you are correct. I was a general agent in Louisiana during the time Louis was in business and met him on several occasions, at this time he was a heavy hitter in the Bail Bond business and i would guess he had 100 or more people that wrote paper for him in the south and was expanding to the north. He also was one of the main people that pushed for the licensing in Louisiana. I almost went to work for him up north Louisiana. But i was offed a general agent position with NOBLE out of Dallas, TX for the north Central and north east Louisiana and took them up on their deal which was a lot better than what Louis offered. As for Gretna, Louisiana picture all Vegas casino's with in 5 blocks in a small town. In the day allot of bondsman also ran a pawnshop and were making a killing, it was like this until i moved up here to Indiana in 1998. I spent 22 years in Louisiana, 10 as a general agent |
