This is a spin off from a seperate topic, but 1 I thought viable for public discussion.

What forms do most of you carry in the field with you ? Aside from the case file which has all of the case documents, i.e. bail piece, bond application, forfieture notice, pictures, etc.

For example, I carry the following in my briefcase at all times:

1) Copy of Tailor vs. Taintor

2) Copy of the U.S. Code Title 18 sections 1071, 3, 100, 752, 1072 referring to obstruction, harbouring, etc. (Same field interview form the U.S. Marshall's use).

3) Copy of my business license for private investigations- In my state this is our "Pi License".

4) 1984 Al. State Attorney General ruling declaring my state as a limited open carry state. Several times over the years cops have tried to tell me that openly carrying a firearm violated the "impersonation" statute. Upon handing them my copy of this ruling, they then ask to make a copy for themselves to pass on to others in thier dept. It is a little known AG opinion that most AL. leo's are unfamiliar with.

5) A copy of my state's statute addressing a surety's arrest powers.

In the past 9 yrs. I have shown some or all of these documents to law enforcement personnel, H.R. directors, business owners, relatives, and friends of the fugitive in an attempt to A) Demonstrate my compliance with all applicable laws
B) Locate my fugitive.

I just researched 18USC Sec. 701 and it states Official badges, identification cards, other insignia. Is this the document you are speaking of?

Aha...found it, I think you meant to say 1071, not 701.

Something I carry is a court order signed by the d.a. and the judge presiding of approval to write bonds in my district here in TN.

Thanks for the great info, its always great to have the laws to back you up in case you are being misinterpreted.
