Post subject:  Short Barrelled Tactical Shotguns

I am currently researching what modifications/accessories are available for a Remington 870 12 ga. shotgun when I came across this website:
http://www.ironridgeguns.com/shotgall/shotgall.htm

These modified shotguns are just really, really awesome and moderately priced. If I bought all of the parts and pieces from places like ATI, Tac-Star, etc and doing it myself, I would easily have well over a thousand dollars invested in it and it still wouldn't look like anything these people have !..:)

So for my fellow gun nuts out here read and drool !...lol :)

For us in the Peoples Republic of California, all we can do is drool. Most of them would be illegal to buy or possess in our great state!

CA has banned all shotguns with a front hand grip and or folding rear stocks.

RWB. A guy can save a lot by " tricking " out his shotgun. I took my 870, put a pistol grip on it, magazine extension, shell holder, tactical sling, Tac Star light system, and just used my short slug barrel on it. Looks and shoots great. All for around $200. Heck of a lot cheaper than going out and buying a new gun already set up.

Nice looking modified shotguns, however most of what was show here is illegal under federal and state laws unless you work for a law enforcement agency or the military. Most states require that civilian shotguns have a barrel length of sixteen inches or more to be legal, with most being eighteen inches. If you had such a modified weapon when and where would you carry it? Surely not while doing bail enforcement agent or private investigator work.

Minnesota's carry and conceal laws permit concealed or open carry. You can carry more than one weapon. We work in downtown Minneapolis and St. Paul. Very dangerous areas just to be in, let alone arrest a subject in. Having a tactical shotgun in sight can be a very good deterrent. It is legal as long as you don't point it at or threaten someone with it. Just like a pistol, it can legally only be pointed at someone if you feel they are a threat to you. Yes, there is a legal minimum barrel length and the only other thing you have to be aware of is carrying it in your vehicle. Because it is a shotgun, you can get a DNR violation for transporting it unless it is enclosed within a carrying case and unloaded. Don't get me wrong, we would only take it out in an extreme situation, not just to look "tough". We try to be as low impact as possible.
