In order to work bail enforcement in NY you must be licensed as a BEA, PI or Bondsman in NY, if your only licensed as a bondsman you are limited to recovery of your own skips you wrote the bond for. If you are not licensed as stated above you could assist someone who is licensed but could not make an arrest on your own without the person who is properly licensed being present. |

I would suggest that before you sign-up for any classes and spend ALOT of money, that you first research the New York state laws. Make sure that you qualify for the state license. If you can not qualify for the state license, why waste your money? I have seen to many people ripped off in this Profession. If I had a dollar for every story I have heard about someone who attended a "Bounty Hunter School", only later to be told they needed to be "licensed" in the state they reside in, I could retire! Just because you attend a "school or class", DOES NOT mean you are licensed. |

That's right David it's a $500,000 bond, this is the reason people that want to do Bail Enforcement in NY do it under a PI License which only requires a $50,000 bond, anyone who wishes to do Bail Enforcement in NY should find a PI willing to put them under their license. Some other requirements required to get your own PI license are 5 years experience working under a PI or as an investigator with a law enforcement agency, a background investigation and exam administered by the State. A BEA license only requires 3 years of experience and a 25 hour class but it doesn't matter much since NY has never issued a BEA license due to no insurance companies are writing the required bond. The way to go is to work under a NY PI for 5 years and then get your own license. |

I hope you don't want to dress or act like the people around "Dog" , I know Tom Evangelista and respect his work but I'm not sure what he pays his people, I suspect it's more than $5.15 an hour, in fact most BEA's get paid a percentage of the bond rather than an hourly wage, in my company no one makes a thing unless we get the skip or find another way to get the surety of the bond. This is a business and the #1 goal is to make money, getting the bad guy is nice but if I can get the Police to do it and I still get paid then that's a wise business decision as it lessons my risk of potential liability, it's realistic to expect low or no pay while learning but when you get experience you want to make sure you get paid for your work, I don't expect I'll ever get rich doing this but I do make sure I get paid a fair price for my efforts. |

500,000.00 bond is correct and almost impossible to get(any bondsmen can sell it to you but most will not--)if they do sell you the bond it will be very expensive( i believe people should get together and sue ny for restraint of trade) right now there are no licensed beas in ny because of the bond issue and the state is happy about it-- there are people in ny doing it illegally and there are many pis doing bea work all other requirements for ny bea can be met for a reasonable sum of money and a little time and study contact some buffalo bondsmen and see who they use for bea work than call these people and ask questions see if they can help you DO NOT DO BEA WITHOUT A LICENSE OR YOU WILL NEED A BONDSMEN TO GET YOU OUT OF JAIL |
