This may be old news to some of you, but I came across this report and thought it makes for interesting reading. Any thoughts on how this situation could have been been resolved without a fatality?

"Hindsight" is always 20/20. None of us were there, so its easy to dissect everything. Having said that, the first option that comes to my mind is time.

The police could have diffused the situation by retreating some, while keeping the door open. They could have simply then waited him out.

Could have activated thier "swat" team and deployed a "flashbang". It's exactly these kinds of situations those devices are designed for.

Waited for the Hostage negotiator to get there.

Utilized a bean bag round in the shotgun....
