ADVISEMENT OF FEDERAL STATUTES  ______________________________________________________________________________ ACCESSORY AFTER THE FACT: (SECTION 3, TITLE 18 U.S.CODE) Whomever, knowing that an offense against the United States has been committed, receives, comforts or assists the offender in order to hinder or prevent his apprehension, trial, or punishment is an accessory after the fact. Except as otherwise expressly provided by any act of congress, an accessory after the fact shall be imprisoned not more than one-half the maximum term of imprisonment or fined not more than one-half the maximum fine prescribed for the punishment of the principal, or both; or if the principal is punishable by death, the accessory shall be imprisoned not more than ten years. ________________________________________________________________________ STATEMENTS OR ENTRIES GENERALLY: (SECTION 1001,TITLE 18 U.S.CODE) Whomever, in any matter within the jurisdiction of any department or agency of the United States knowingly and willfully falsifies, conceals, or covers up by any trick, scheme, devise a material fact, or makes any false, fictitious or fraudulent statements, or mis-representations, or makes or uses any false writing or document knowing the same to contain any false, fictitious or fraudulent statement or entry, shall be fined not more than $10,000.00 or imprisoned not more than five years or both. ________________________________________________________________________ CONCEALING PERSON FROM ARREST: (SECTION 1071,TITLE 18 U.S.CODE) Whomever harbors or conceals any person for whose arrest a warrant or process has been issued under the provisions of any law of the United States, so as to prevent his discovery and arrest, after notice or knowledge of the fact that a warrant or process has been issued for the apprehension of such person, shall be fined not more than $1,000.00 or imprisoned not more than one year, or both; except that if the warrant or process issued on a charge of felony, or after conviction of such person of any offense, the punishment shall be a fine of not more than $5,000.00, or imprisonment for not more than five years or both. ________________________________________________________________________ CONCEALING ESCAPED PRISONER: (SECTION 1072, TITLE 18 U.S.CODE) Whomever, willfully harbors or conceals any prisoners after his escape from the custody of the Attorney General or from a Federal penal or correctional institution, shall be imprisoned not more than three years. |
