According to the New Jersey State Police the applications for the new bounty hunter license will open on July 1st. After the opening of such license applications the enforcement of this new law/license will be in effect. Please check with their website: NJSP.org or your nearest State Police barracks for more info. The requirements and etc are posted on the NJSP.org site, just click in the search box at the top right of the site and type in bounty hunters. Choose the latest added letter regarding the new laws. After July 1st I will be leaving the Bail Enforcement field as i do not qualify for the license AND itll be illegal to work without it. Maybe upon a stroke of some good luck instead of bad for me ill manage to scrounge up the money to get my qualifications in. I just missed the grandfather acception by 2 years....its rediculous. Rickster, why didn't you tell me this when we talked earlier today??. You WILL be able to work in NJ under a registered BEA's business as an employee. Through an employer you will have to be finger printed & insured through the state process also, but you WILL be able to hunt in NJ. Don't give up brother, I have a feeling that we're not finished in the State House. Lets see what happens ....... .... Yak |

(Steel) So the 5 year rule means if you don't have that ........ you don't get a license..... regardless of prior training in the field........... mmmmmmmmmmmm. that could disqualify a lot of good people although it might also keep some cowboys out.............. mixed bag it appears. But as Yak points out........ couldn't you work under a licensed BEA?.... I mean, ya gotta be able to do that or how else would someone starting out get the necessary time in... OJT is the only way?? |

They didnt tell me anything about being able to work under another bounty hunter. They made it seem as if every single person working in this has to have one. Yak, I didnt tell you cuz i just found this stuff out after a friend of mine called me up askin me if i had heard the news. So when i researched it/called njsp. Those were the answers i got. Dont forget i work morning-afternoon and nights. while getting my sleep hours inbetween shifts. So its been real hard for me to be on the up-and-up with current events...i havent even seen the news in weeks lol. Makes bad weather a surprise to me as i never know when its comin lol. Speezak: The list of nessesary qualifications on the letter they just released says i need 5 yrs to grandfather in...i only have 3. So im kinda beat on that angle as well. LuVonda, I dont know what to say to you besides. "I love ya sis" your one hell of a morale back-up. LoL. You never let us down. LoL. How have you been? Drop me a line and lemme know...you have my myspace. I check that daily. Rick |

Hey Guys, I know everyone in NJ is getting all freaked out, but it is really not as bad as it is being made out to be. I talked to a few cops and troopers along with some other people in the private detective bureau and the state is basically looking for accountability. There are too many wackos out there pulling people over, robbing drug dealers and kicking in doors pretending to be police because there are not any regulations out here regarding recovery. It's basically to weed out the troublemakers. I am not sure if anyone has tried recently, but now you need a bondsman license or something close to it to even purchase a fugitive recovery badge. I also hear new regulations, if they have not hit already, that require some type of license to purchase hand restraints. Also, just because this was signed into law does not mean too much. It still can be challenged in court. The beauty of the system... Since I am a bondsman, I can still hunt my own skips. You can also register under a PI. I am not saying to go ahead and work recovery regardless of the new laws, but if you are responsible and do things the right way, there should not be any problems - even with the new law. When I deal with the cops on every case, they don't have a clue about the laws before. Just because they enacted a bounty hunter law doesnt mean that local cops are still gonna have a clue about what the laws really are. They cops just do not want nuts kicking in doors at 2am and then fleeing the scene. It aggrevates them. We checkin with every PD and before we conduct a search, we call local PD and they help us search. This way, cops are n scene and people do not flood the local PD with phone calls. As long as your paperwork is in order, things usually go smooth. At least with me they do. The authorities want to get the bad guys just as much as we do. This law is really trying to hold people accountable that do not conduct themselves professionally. It's not meant to punish the responsible agents. Like I said, it's only a matter of time before it is challenged in the courts. There is still the supreme court ruling Tailor v Taintor. |

Robert is pretty much correct in his posting with the exception of only a couple things "Since I am a bondsman, I can still hunt my own skips. You can also register under a PI." ** As of yeterday, 7/2, this can not be confirmed, as a lawyer, Rich Blender (A top bailbond lawyer in NJ) was sent down from North Jersey to challenge and address the specifics of our regulations. Nothing will be confirmed until, hopefully next week as this process moves no faster than a lame snail. NO ONE has yet been approved and they are STILL VAGUE on the specifics. ""Like I said, it's only a matter of time before it is challenged in the courts. There is still the supreme court ruling Tailor v Taintor."" ** The State of NJ has "NOT" recognized Tailor vs Taintor for a few years now, until someone comes up with the funds which I believe Hadley had explained, would be in the range of 15,000.00 just to bring it to the Supreme Court. So in the meantime, stay low and do it right. |

Brother Yak, I think that, once again, our fine state is only interested in feeding their own and allowing everyone else to starve. I think (like many of our bounty hunter cousins in nj) that they made this thing so that only cops can do this stuff and make money...think about it....the way its written...basically only ex cops can do it. (Besides a couple of the lines written in it of course) I believe the way they wrote it is rediculous! Weve talked about it Yak and we are both on the same page as far as how we feel about it. Thats what i like so much about talkin to you, we feel the same about so many issues. The state needs money, ergo this is one of the best ways to keep anyone else from makin any money, be keepin it all within their "circle". **The above statement is only MY opinion.** |
