Does anyone know how this process works or can direct me to any websites that have this type of information. I got hired to pick up an immigrant and bring him to ICE, but want to make sure i have all the facts on how this part of the business works.. Thanks for your help |

These cases are very difficult. You can only take them to an ICE facility between 8am and 4pm, Monday through Friday, period. If you have someone in custody and can't get their in time, they are your responsibility until you can. This opens you up for incredible liability for accusations of kidnapping, false imprisonment etc. Although you have a legal right to detain someone for up to 48 hours prior to surrender, due to circumstances beyond your control, it will still cost you plenty to defend yourself from un-warranted charges that arise from the situation described. I actually established precedence in a local county to me for temporary commitments to aleviate myself of the issue previously described. I had to explain to a Judge over the phone at the commissioner's office, why I needed a temporary commitment order (releasing the fugitive to me 8am Monday morning for transport to ICE) He agreed that it was prudent on my part and granted the order. The next issue, there is a toll free number you call to verify the person is still wanted and has not left the country on their own. You get the recording, punch in the "A" number and it will tell you the person has a deportation order. Explaining to local law enforcement that this means they have a warrant is often very difficult. Lastly, the company that hired me expected me to collect past due money, which I refused to do. Since I was armed, I would face an armed robbery charge and rightfully so. They have a civil remedy available to them in a court of law, and not in the hands of a well meaning Bail Enforcement Agent. I've done a few of these and to me they are not worth the hassle. Too much red tape, too many rules and regulations, and too many lazy feds. if you don't know what you are doing, you can end up in jail yourself. |

In response to a request from the original poster... ICE 1-800-898-7180 Order for Removal = Warrant Type in the "A" number and follow the recorded instructions. Often the actual case file is in the location where they were originally bonded and needs to be shipped up to the location they are found for a quick response. They actually want you to tell them a week in advance before you arrest them...go figure, arrest by appointment! Scott |

NJBouncer, Ive heard alota bad s***t about immigration work in Jersey bro. We've talked a couple times on MySpace and you seem like a real cool guy with his head on his shoulders, dont lose it on immigration work. If it doesnt seem like its gonna profit out in the end then dont put all that trouble into it. Like the others have said, Ive heard real s***ty stories about ICE cases. Be careful and vest up bro.
