Post subject:  CA Laws on recovery

I am looking for some knowledge. I have read the rules and Regulations for CA. However I was thinking you only need the PC 832 laws of arrest portion. I have been told that is not true I need a and b (firearms) portions. I have the 12hr pre bail licensing, and BSIS 8hr aresst course. Do I need that also? Thank you for your time as I am sure this has been addressed before.

I'll defer this answer to TSuggs...and yes, this question gets asked/answered every other day now. A little research and you will find your answers..research, once again, is a part of investigating for those who are not too spoiled, lazy, unprofessional, silver spoon fed, to conduct by themselves.

You only need the firearms part if you are planning on carrying a firearm. Most people do them both together since they generally schedule them that way (and up here in NorCal it only costs an extra $24.00). Yes, you do need the BSIS course on Powers of arrest. PC1299 requires it.

The fireams portion of the 832 class is good to have. It is not require however to carry. You can carry a firearm under PC 12031(k) of the CA penal code while making or attempting to make a LAWFUL arrest.

I have a letter from the CA State Attorney General office describing the proper way to carry under pc 12031(K). If you would like a copy, shoot me a email with fax number and I will send it to you along with the DOIs and BSIS response to my inquiry regarding carrying a firearm while performing bail recovery work.

I carry these letters when I go out in the field, which is not very often.
