Hey all! I am wondering from you veterans. Which site is the best for searching? Merlin / Nation Wide / Skip Smasher? Thanks for any and all input. Happy hunting! |

I don't know anything about Merlin. I don't like LocatePlus. I use Skipsmasher and IRB. Any reputable site will require you to provide qualifications proving that you have a right to access their data. I understand that some even require you to have been in business for a certain number of years prior to allowing access. |

I use Merlin myself and am so-so about their service. A lot of their information is old, and not up-to-date. I have heard good things about skipsmasher though (haven't tried it yet). Most of these places will give you some sort of free trial, just look into it. You'll usually need to fax over some sort of credentials though. |

If you're looking for a "one stop solution" forget it. Although some services will boast that they are...remember they are still just marketing themselves for business ($) so take it all with a grain of salt. The proof is in the pudding. The best advice is to see which services have the most reliable/recent information available. You can do a "demo" with just about any service. Some require they check you out first though. I use Locate Plus and I found that the SSN retrieval is very good, while vehicle records are WAY behind. I also tried Merlin, but they are expensive and the info is just so-so. So once again, I suggest trying them out to see who pulls the info you need/want and most likely you will need to use a combination of services. Please do not become 100% dependent on the info coming from a service though. You can still put together a great list of resources (FREE) by doing some good old fashioned research with your PC and your telephone. After all, you do want to be an INVESTIGATOR...right? My motto is: Research it until you come full circle. |
