So, I go out on a capture. We get within 10 ft of this guy and he bolts.

I think he is half gazelle.

So I chased my $700 skip through a maze of residential hell. He ended up losing me during the foot pursuit....

And what do I have to show for it?

Sore legs, a slight wheeze in my chest, and the biggest adrenaline rush I've had in months.

I think that's worth more than 700 dollars any day :D

I had to reply this. Been there, it's happened to me a few times. At 300 pounds it's not hard to out run me. Over the years I developed tactics that allow me to get my hands on the Skip before he knows what's happening. When that's not possible I bring a good runner along for the apprehension. You're a good sport. I hate getting out run it ruins my day week or month depending on how long it takes me to find them again.

Happens to all of us! I had one we nicknamed the "disappearing dot" and he regularly out ran police digs. We actually caught him on a roof, took his ladders and he stood there and shit himself! We stripped him down and hosed him off in the yard and he still stunk all of the way to the jail.

I had one that hid lying down in tall grass near some railroad tracks. That area was just one of many places we searched after he out ran me.

He called me later that night and laughed while telling me that we walked so close to him he heard my partner and I talking, he even repeated some of the things we said so I knew he was telling the truth. I took a deep breath and simply told him that "you have to be lucky every day, but we only have to be lucky once". I repeated this to him and had the last laugh after his landlord sold him out and we caught him meeting his girl at a Motel.

It happens to all of us. I was working a case in a very rural area. I went to his Dad's house and he said he hadn't seen him in over a month. (He was obviously lying) as I started to leave I noticed this old shack about 100 yards below his dads house. As I knocked on the front door the skip and his girlfriend ran out the back. It was cold and a slight mist was coming down. There were weeds about waist high and then it ran into a wooded area. I'm standing in the weeds, soaking wet with my light going dim and my cell phone rang, it was the bondsman, he said the skip had called him on his cell phone and promised to turn himself in the next morning if he would get that crazy sob off him. Sure enough, he turned himself in the next morning.

Take care
