Post subject:  SO YOU WANT TO BE THE POLICE....
Oh so you think you know what it takes to be a police officer and now you want to be a police officer. Well then you are ready to endure twenty six weeks of academy training being yelled at, cussed every day and told you will never make it on the streets. Then you graduate and receive your shining new badge and re-blued service weapon and six rounds, if you want additional bullets you are told by your supervisor that you must purchased them yourself. Now comes what you have been waiting for your chance on the mean streets pushing a scout car ripping and running to calls for help. But wait its you first day (Mid-Nights) and in roll call the watch commander tells forget all that bullshyt that you learned in the academy we are going to teach how to really police out here.

Then he assigns you to a footbeat with some clown that been on the job for thirty years and is still walking a beat on midnights. The first lesson from your new Field Training Officer is to learn where the cooping spots are and where to can get a free meal. You make it through the night and think to yourself is this what I going to be in thirty years. Then over the next several months you are posted to stand security at a homicide wherein the victim is good and rip insofar as he has been dead for three or four days in an apartment that is about hundred degrees with the windows open(You will never get that smell of death out of you nose). After you complete that assignment there is lots more to come, you will get the chance to respond to an accident wherein the victims were not wearing seatbelts and crashed through the windshield and were decapitated on impact

You will also have the pleasure of responding to calls for service where children have been burned with irons, beat with extension cords, tossed out of a window, or placed in an oven by a crack smoking mother. Then of course you have the good days when you will respond to the misdemeanor homicides (Drug boys killing each other) however some poor grandmother six blocks away is hit by one the stray bullets and killed while sitting on her own porch, oh darn did I mention the domestic call where in the wife poured hot grits on the husband back because he had smoked the last crack rock. These are the things that will make you cry inside, however because you are a police officer and you and not suppose have feelings like any other human. Welcome to Law Enforcement Rookie…

Sounds exactly what my NYPD career was except my first 3 years I walked a foot post and the only police car i saw was the one with the old timers were in while driving by and waving ... while I walked in waist deep snow and freezing blizzards..

Other than that .. yup sounds about right ! ..

i don't know why but that little composition still gets me excited to pursue my career as a LEO!! I am even more excited that I finally found approved qualifying schools by my state for BEA!! Call me a rookie but I'm excited!

DSI & NYPD Blue I did find this little summary exciting!

LOL ! They can be a bit on the vocal side can they not, Gene ? I live "in town" but to listen to the critters at nite you would think otherwise. Just came in from the Jail to a couple of O'Possums playing around in the yard down by the creek. They do not even take off anymore they know that the dogs and I are not going to bother them.
You need to give it at least 6 months Gene then you would not want to go back to the rushhhhhhh
