I am considering joining a shooting league this fall and am wondering if anyone has any suggestions of a good target pistol? Right now I am tossed between a Ruger Mark III or the S&W 22A Does anyone have any suggestions of guns to look at or avoid? |

I have owned numerous Walther P22 pistols, and sadly all of them have had feeding issues. I have had no personal experience with the Sig Mosquito 22 but I have been told by others that they too suffer from feeding and ejecting issues. The Mark III is a pretty solid pistol in my experience, and I have heard good things about the S&W 22. |

I also own two Ruger .22's a model I and a model II, the only difference in the safety... both of mine have bull barrels but they shoot really well and are cheap to shoot... Anything you like is probably ok as long as it is top quality... most upscale brands are fine... I probably would shy away from anything larger than a .38 unless you just want to burn powder and money. Funny you should mention the problem with the Walther's... I had a really nice "looking" PPK .380 that I loved but it stove-piped about every other mag and that just wouldn't get it.... I even had the ejector replaced and the 'throat' polished and some other gun smithing done but to no avail... I finally traded it for a .22 Smith... which I wish I still had but alas... traded that too.... now I only have the 2 Rugers as plinkers... I recommend them but any top line pistols would be fine.. whatever your pocketbook and handling likes. I might mention that I get ammunition from a couple of online stores. I intend on doing a critique on those suppliers in a bit... |

Here's a little something you can easily conceal and plink with... .44 mag Thompson Center... 14" magna-ported, custom grips and sights, trigger job... Chromed and the other is a Dan Weason .44 mag w/8" heavy barrel... either will put a very large hole in things like engine blocks and Taliban's... ......... but little .22's are certainly better fur plinkin'... ... sorry, just got a little carried away... I just love talkin' bout guns and other redneck stuff.......... BTW... that is an original Fenway Park t-shirt... that came from Boston and the Series... and no, no, no... the other t-shirt is not an Obama shirt... that says... Urbanna (Oyster festival in Virginia) everyone seems to think it says something about Obama......... not so.............. |

Wonder what the police would think if you showed up to do a Bail Recovery with a .44 Mares leg? It is technically a hand gun As for the Dan Wesson.... any of the Dan Wessons are dream guns for me. If you ever watched TJ Hooker, he used one and kept the case in the trunk of his car - he'd open it up and there were all of his barrels. I heard someone say once that it was the perfect cop gun, long barrel for patrol, and short barrel for off duty. |

Well I must say Bill, I sure do like that Dan Wesson, Had a .357 like that with inter-changeable barrels, couldn't get the barrels though, that along with a Davis .380 nice little ccw and a Winchester 1300 Trapper 12 ga. shotgun were stolen some 11 yrs ago off me. But now I got a .38 -.40 single action and a S&W .40 auto nice gun with a couple shotguns, muzzle loader, and couple rifles but not as many as you got Bill, Now a Casall .454 or the Judge those are nice ain't gonna be much left when your done but they sure aren't gonna get away, I'm kidding you don't wanna use them for plinkin they can get rather expensive, .22's and 9mm are nice but its up to the individual what they want to use. |

I haven't shot in competition for about 25 years now, but when I did most people were shooting Remington Competition 22's with counter weighted 7 inch barrels. Most weapon manufacturers have specially designed competition and match grade pistols in their lineups. My personal weapons now are a Browning Hi-Power 9mm, a Sig P229 .40 cal, three personally customized .45 ACP (bought the receivers as 80 percent lowers, then customized them myself to be exactly what I wanted), an old Mossberg 500 12 guage, a highly modified M-14 and a couple of others that I modified. |
