Post subject:  PHONE SPAMMER ALERT NY based in California?
Just spoke with a few bail bondsmen here in upper NY.

HOW THE SPAM WORKS:

You receive a call (caller ID shows private) from a male claiming to be from your local jail. He states that the jail is investigating a stolen credit card scam that may have been used to bail persons out of that jail. He then states that he can't contact the last person you bailed out and asks if you have any contact numbers for them.

If he secures a phone number ...that party is contacted stating that they owe an additional $700 in fees.

This time it's a female with caller ID displayed as: Julie Strobel 925-549-0743

If they are challenged ...they hang up.

Obviously they are trying to get credit card numbers...

Received the same call 2 weeks ago. Did not get the phone number because it was blocked on my office number they called.

FYI: Today (31JAN2011) they contacted -3- BB shops in this area.

This may be a spoofed name or number. Also many people out here now get cell phones outside their actual city of residence to try and throw off anyone looking for them.

A quick check for a Julie Strobel did not turn up anything in my searches for San Ramon.

Will keep looking to see if we can pin them down.

Just goes to show you no one is safe from these scammers :evil: I got a Donna M Strobel age 54, Michael S Strobel age 18-24, Stephanie M Strobel age 25-29, and a Robert C Strobel age 55-59 at the address no Julie Strobel. People like this can always use throw away phones to its really easy to put down fake info.

I have her, and those persons listed there. Maybe relatives. And yes, possibly false information, it was a start.
