I do not know everything about GPS ankle bracelets, but is their an alarm that is sent if it is cut off?? I am also assuming Mom bailed him out and lived with her. If there is no alarm sent when cut, who is really responsible for his "escape"?? |

No audible . . . from any of the ones that I reviewed. Would show a break @ the "Monitoring" . . . however if not set to be "checked" every few seconds would not show until "status" report is pulled. People rely too much on that "comfort" zone and should better educate themselves when purchasing any product or service. The old adage applies here . . . . You get what you pay for . . . NOT what you THINK you are paying for

I thought as long as the leg unit is within a certain distance of the receiving unit (that is in the house also) it will not send an alarm... if he cut it off and left it close to the receiver... it would not send an alarm... unless of course the band had some sort of wire that would activate if cut or broken... if not, no alarm would sound unless the unit moved outside the activation perimeter... sort of like the "invisible fence" for animals in the yard. I got the impression the monitoring company was at fault, not the bonding company. |

ICU in Rock Hill offers satellite monitoring for $8 a week. The owner, Ned Polk, owns several bonding companies across the state. Most newer units do have fiber optics in the band. So if it is cut, it will sound an alarm. From what I get from the article, there is a question of whether or not the unit actually was operational at all. Since the onwer of the GPS company also owns bond offices, this could just further the image of greedy, shady bondsmen. |

When "GPS" units were being used around here (in the hills) back in 2005 I was advised that the units were "known" to cease functioning and I was to not tell the client but rather to simply make contact and advise that there was an "upgrade" being made and do a change out. I chose NOT to get involved in the "GPS" ankle bracelets as I feel they gave a false sense of security when it was not available. I am speaking only of the area in which I reside as I have no reason to research it for any other area. The question would be "who" provides their "units" |

How about the "MOM" who obviously knows her son is a career crook take some responsibility here. HE WAS IN HER HOUSE AND ESCAPED FROM HER HOUSE. She bonded him out, and she obviously knew he would run, otherwise she would not have paid for the ankle bracelet. She just didn't want to take the responsibility of monitoring her son and keeping him in check. She wants to blame everyone else but herself. Take some responsibility as a parent. MORAL OF THE STORY: Sometimes tough love works better. Should have left him locked up especially when she more than obviously knew what he was going to do if given the chance. This also a good example of why Defendant Monitoring is becoming more of a business option for Recovery Agents and Bondsman. |

I would have several questions: Is the client required to keep the unit charged, and if he did not, would that at the very least, alarm the monitoring company for low battery? If it is cell based, could they have poor or no signal to even initiate a warning? I believe the monitor is a psychological tool as much as it is a tattle tale device, with equal value per factor. No monitoring device is designed to raise your children or babysit them. If an individual is prone to break the law or the rules, this will not curtail their behavior or compensate for years of poor parenting. The word for the day is "Culpability" Not to convolute the issue, but monitoring issues here, when reported, do not illicit a response from LE. Does anyone have a reputable monitoring company? California service. Let's hope mom's don't practice too much of that tough love and leave the poor kiddies in jail. |
