Post subject:  Hackers / E-Mail Spoof

I have been getting a bunch of e-mails returned to me, the problem is that I never sent them, someone has been spoofing my e-mail address to look like I'm sending e-mails and I'm also receiving a bunch of e-mails with attachments from unknown senders, these e-mails were scanned and contain a virus.

I'm under attack by a hacker, why I don't know but I wanted to put everyone on alert.

If you receive an e-mail from whatever@bail-recovery-directory.com it's not from me so don't open it and definitely don't download any attachments.

Chuck,
I have been receiving these emails as well. This is the second time in the past year this has happened. I believe they are targeting people from this forum because in the past I have received email from Rex's email address that contained a virus. I contacted Rex and he indeed did not send any emails my way. Make sure you're scanning your emails everyone, even if you know the address they are coming from.

I think what's happening is that this hacker is somehow spoofing e-mail addresses, he is sending e-mailes with viruses to people that appear to be coming from e-mail addresses associated with our web sites and when he sends one to an invalid e-mail address it gets returned to us.

Were not the only ones this is happening to, I have been receiving
e-mails with viruses from what appears to be big businesses like newspapers but I know that it's not really coming from these businesses it's the hacker spoofing their e-mail addresses too.

It's starting to get annoying, I wish I could find out who is behind it.

I keep my Norton antivirus protection set to automatically scan ALL incoming e-mails and any other files I open that contain macros or Microsoft programs such as Word, Excel, etc. It has saved me a world of trouble.

I NEVER open an attachment that comes from someone I do not know. I use Incredimail as my replacement to Outlook Express for my ISP e-mail which allows me to "bounce to sender" any spam emails not on my approved list, saying that it was sent to an invalid address. This gets rid of a lot of spam. I also use disposable Sneakemail addresses whenever I have to give an email address to register for anything I have doubts about on a website. If I start to get too much spam in it I just delete that address and create another. It is free for up to 10 and forwards to any permanent address you list. It is much easier to delete a "disposable" e-mail address than to change your permanent one everytime it gets on a spam list.

Just some suggestions that I have found beneficial...
