It has been noted that some of the laws posted on the FRN website are not up to date. I would remind all that visit our website... this site is edited by a small number of licensed, verified and compliant agents, bondsmen, PI's and others in our varied fields and as such there will probably be information posted that may not be completely up to date. We, who are delegated with trying to keep this info current sometimes miss updates. So, having said that........... please take this simple precaution... Verify any and all information you may receive from members and any other source that may be on our site. We strive to keep this information current but we never attempt to be the final say on anything reflected here. I might ad one other item. At the bottom of the "Directory of State Laws", there is a link "Overview of Bounty Hunting Laws" which may have additional information as to pending legislation. This may be updated and provide you with additional info for the state you are researching. Google and other internet search engines are also extremely informative sources when researching state laws and regulations. Generally, state government websites are a good starting point. A member PM'd me recently and stated that a prospective BEA out of a northeastern state approached him asking for work and when questioned about a license... the applicant replied.... "No license is needed in --------- I just checked on FRN and they said none is required." Come on people, use your heads here... verification is an absolute necessity and requirement in our industry... questioning your legality is the FIRST QUESTION YOU WILL BE ASKED WHEN APPROACHING A POSSIBLE EMPLOYER. take no ones word, view many sources and verify what is needed and how to obtain it... |

In this craft we are investigators, do your job. Would you put your freedom in jeopardy based on heresay? If you would, than you are a fool. Laws as well as statutes can and do change all of the time. It is your responsibility to seek answers at the root, usually the state sponsored official website. If you do not understand the laws as posted on the official state legislative website, then take them to an attorney for interpretation. By all means, copy them and keep them with you. We have a long standing policy of copying the laws pertaining to our craft from the state sponsored website of the state we are going to as well as the states we are traveling through. Most LE do not know the laws and will try to bully you if you do not know them, and this could cost you your freedom. The bottom line is obtaining the current information is your responsibility, period. Scott |

Very good advice. I cannot stress how important it is to obtain the proper licensing to work in this industry. In most states that require you to have a license you can be charged with a felony for operating without one. Do your research before you act. |
