have another question for you guys.. glock gave my dad a 9mm with a 16rnd clip in the late 90s for some work he was doing... i know its legal for him to have because he had it before 2000, but if he transfered it to me, would it be illegal for me to carry?

If "I" were "You ". . . "I" would contact a Gun Dealer in California and be asking this question.

One can not sell or transfer any high capacity magazine after 2000 in CA. Go to the AG Firearms website for specific regulations.

Please complete your sig line so we know who you and where you are.

Forgive me for "piping" in, and I mean NO disrespect or to seem arrogant. A big part of what we do as FRAs is scrutinized by LEO. I am a bail bondsman and see this daily in my full time profession. "Clips" are the street vernacular for a pistol's magazine. This tidbit, in the future, may assist you. I hope you read my post in the manner it is meant to be in and that manner is a mode of mentoring. Stay well and God Bless! Bri.

Tony and Brian are both correct... tooo much firepower in CA and many other states... although I think some states have rec-ended that ruling??

A clip is an external device that holds rounds that are 'pushed' into the weapon... a magazine is an internal device in the weapon, often removable as in the 1911 .45, that physically holds the rounds and feeds them into the chamber of the weapon... many variations of this but basically this is a catch all description.

Some bolt action weapons have an internal magazine that holds the rounds and is not removable, the rounds are fed into the weapon from the top or bottom until capacity is filled and then fed into the firing chamber as the bolt or slide is worked.

Some automatic weapons have additional actions that may incorporate a belt or drum...

Don't you just hate a know it all??
