This is worth a few minutes of your time. It actually brought tears to my eyes. If you were in the service you will understand the feelings, if not, watch and enjoy the dedications and training that goes into this sort of performance. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y90UPLLo6nY There have been over 5 millions hits on this utube viewing.... Semper Fi my brothers. |

Interesting spectacle, I commend them very much for their discipline. I HATED drill and ceremony when I was in the service, the only time I really applied myself was for funeral detail. |

I think the discipline, dedication and extensive training that goes into this sort of thing is what is impressive. I didn't particularly like it either. I literally wore out several pairs of brogans on the parade field at PI... The other day I got out my old M1 Garrand (Sir!!, 30 caliber, semi-automatic, clip fed, gas operated, shoulder weapon, 9.5lbs, sir!!) to clean it up a bit and it brought back memories... that was what I was issued back in '61... (we didn't get the M-14 for several years... still had the BAR in service too and I never had the pleasure of an M-16 and now the M-4, wow!) ... we drilled with the M-1 and I showed my grandson some of the rifle drills... funny how you never forget that stuff... the corps really does indoctrinate you... I even fold my skivvies the same way... (that's underwear for you uninformed) Damn that rifle is heavy.... and one other thing... never call it a 'gun'!!!... old saying.... "This is my rifle, this is my gun, this is for killing, this is for fun..." you know the rest. |
