Went on a medic unit call years ago for a jeep that launched into the trees just like this guy, but off of a road culvert. For years later, you could see the square swath he cut through the top of the trees 30' above the road surface. We found him in a creek bed with the rubber gasket from the windshield wrapped around him like a belt, and when rolled over, there was nothing left of his face. Frontal lobotomy courtesy of a tree. I will never forget that one. Scott |

As a child (maybe, 8 or 9) my family was returning from a visit with my grandmother at around midnight. As we turned onto a road that was near out house, my father noticed red lights flashing, in a tree. We backed up and found a Camaro wrapped around an Oak, about 15 feet off the ground. Since no one could reach the car to see in, my father lifted me up so I could climb high enough to see if someone was inside (Yea. In hind sight, that was stupid....what if the car fell)....there was a teen female (though I could not tell anything except it was a person, at the time) and a child (that I could not see) was crying. I will never forget that sight either. Decent ending, though: Both, mother and baby, lived. The mother lost her legs but still lives in this area and I see her often. She told police (much later) that her ex was chasing her and she knew that her Camaro could out run him. The last she remembered was leaving the house with him following in his truck. That also became one of those life lessons. With all the racing that I have done, I have made sure that it was on a track. There is no help if you lose it in a street race. It took nearly an hour for paramedics and fire to show up at this scene. |
