I know these things get pretty tricky. I am very computer savvy, but I have no idea on how to go about doing this, or if it is even possible. First off, if it was a company email address or paid account, etc. I would have no problem. But, unfortunately it is a Hotmail account. Does anyone have any experience or know somebody that does who knows if it is even possible to get an IP address and location? |

I've never used this before, so I can't vouch for it's effectiveness or say it's worth the $15 they'll charge you for the "report". www.emailfinder.com Good luck |

Pretty funny, I used it before you posted the reply. Its not that bad. Gave me a little bit of info, but nothing of too much use. I got an IP address but its coming back to Germany which I assume is a Hotmail server. Thanks anyways. |

I think, unless you have access to some of the shady stuff in LE or gov.... an email address can be bounced around and could reflect anywhere.... I never had much luck with emails.... I like mommas, daddies or pissed off girlfriends more............ ex girlfriends are really great locators cause they want him just as bad as we do.... but emails, I never found that emails give up much on physical locations........... well.............. I figure someone will lead you somewhere on this one. I have had some luck at times.... once.... with an email address that a guy gave the pizza hut when he ordered a pizza... he had to give his physical address for delivery at the same time he ordered and I talked the little girl behind the counter into giving me his address from the email he ordered from........... we knocked on his door, said "Pizza Hut"... he jerked the door open and said "I didn't order no GD Pizza"... then his eyes got big and his next exclamation was.................... "Oh, shitz"... |

If you go to your mail options settings, you should be able to set it to show the full email address from the sender and the IP from the server it originated from. If you have that then there are several free IP locators that will get you to a city and maybe the name of the server such as SBC, etc. I confirmed a guy skippped to Manila that way. Other than that you will probably need what Bill has said, access to LE stuff or permission from the IP provider. Also, if it is a dymanic IP, one that changes each time the user goes online, you have a harder time of trying to trace the guy. Our home connection is a dynamic IP that is different everytime we log on and not a static one that is assigned to just us. |

Try tracersinfo.com I had a guy call me the other day specifically mentioning there over 1.8 billion email records all tied to physical addresses. I haven't tried them yet, but you never know it just might be good. |

It is possible to trace an email's origin(within a few blocks usually) from the IP address it was sent from. There is nothing illegal involved you just need to understand how the internet works. Even if you have a dynamic IP address it will still get you within 1 mile usually less from the sender. There are many tools online to visually trace IP Addresses. The explanation how this works is long and extremely complicated so just use a program or ask me and I can do it for you. There are databases with email's linked to addresses from internet forums. If the ip address comes back to a DSL connection you can trace it to a land line and then reverse the phone number. |

Ya know 4130, you give good advise... I have no technical idea if your right or wrong but it sure sounds good... I am from the old school and have always found my skips on the street. I have on occasion used some data base search stuff but for the most part, humanintell seems to work better for me. Now IP stuff is way over my paygrade so I just might check it out... in fact... I have an agent friend, who has a particular skip, who has a facebook account and that just might be a way to track him... I don't know... I will provide your info to the agent that is tracking this particular guy. I have found that internet info is spotty at best... unless you happen to be with .... the agency, or whatever... and the data base search engines all use the same stuff... and it is all mostly at least 1 to 6 months out of date... anyway... I will mention this item to this agent and let him go from there. I have always believed that sometimes a case can be broken with the slightest and smallest of facts that get overlooked in the scheme of things... |
