I have a question regarding carrying a gun in MI. Now I have heard this both ways; some people say all you need is a CCW (CPL) to carry on a FR, and others tell me that I need a special license to carry on such job's. So I ask the most experienced people in the FR industry. Am I breaking MI law by conducting FR's with only a CCW? Johnny. |

Johnny, The best answer i will give is contact the dept that issues your CCW that way you know the answer. |

In Virginia, a regulated state, you need to have a CCP issued by DCJS to carry while working. I have two permits... one from my resident county as a private citizen and one from DCJS as a licensed bondsman... CCP for FRA and issued by DCJS would be required here also. |

Johnny, my answer was not meant sarcastic or as a butt hole answer. There are some of the most knowledgeable members here in the US we could tell you the answer but its always best to here it from the horses mouth and you will always be on top of your game. Also your state law could have changed over night and we would give you some wrong information and we pride ourselves here to only give the right information. Welcome to the Forum |

As an investigator, you must get used to sourcing information from the SOURCE, laws from the law makers etc. You MUST know the laws better than anyone else, to include law enforcement to ply your craft. We are on the fringe and criminals and cops alike will like to take you down. Become an expert, be knowledgeable about your area of operation and become a resource to the rest of us, that is how this networking thing works. Dave and Bill, as always, great advice. Scott |
