The topic came up in another discussion on a question I asked, but I would love to here some of the stories from you bond agents and also you BEA agents about some of these "Bounty Hunters" that you may have run into in the line of your work. I personally here in Michigan constantly get asked if I am hiring or looking for Bounty Hunters. I won’t lie my agency dose have what we call our tactical uniform. We only use it when we are going to be possibly getting really dirty or we are out doing something in cooperation with the city such as helping locate a missing child or our annual Angels Night patrols. The uniform really is only a pair of black BDU style pants with a Bail Enforcement t-shirt. I have come across some “agents” who look like there getting ready to invade a small country. They have everything from ballistic helmets to teargas to flash bangs, carrying everything from M-4 rifles to MP-5s. Some got better “toys” then the SWAT team here. Most of the time when I’m out running down a skip I like to be a casual as possible and I feel that it keeps the suspect a bit calmer too. Don’t get me wrong I always were my vest and have a “raid jacket” with me in the car. What do you all think and what types of items do you find work best for you as far as identifying yourself when out on a case? |

"Bounty Hunter dress code" take a look at that thread for a bit of input... probably not the serious side of it but something to consider.... there may actually be a bit of truth and advice there. You have to make the call...... |

Paul, Everyone has there own way of doing things. I tend to use the "Bill" look. ( not exactly ) I've found out that it's much easier to approach people, including skips, with that laid back casual look. It's much easier to have someone open a door for you than to kick it in. The only times we might have our raid shirts on, is when we have a very dangerous subject and LE could possibly be involved. It separates us from the bad guys. As for all the high tech tactical gear, we're not LE. My idea of a high tech raid is having my shotgun with me. As of this time, nobody has resisted to a point of any real violence. We love it that way! For most of the people we arrest, we set the tone of the situation. Like Dalton said, " Be nice until it's time to not be nice. It's nothing personal. It's a job." Also. You'll find out when dealing with different LE Officers for the first time, first impressions go a long way. Be professional and look professional! |

I will tell you that Scott Harrell, Joe Stiles and I apprehended a skip in suits and ties! The CI thought Harrell and I were Mob enforcers! What a hoot! Scott |

Thanks Scott! You just gave me a great idea for my new and authentic look. I think I'll call it my " Bill Scott " look. Suit and tie on top, and shorts and sandles on the bottom! Who would possibly suspect me as being a BEA? |

We are usually casual, and dress for the location we are entering. I agree that WE set the tone for the apprehension for the most part. If you go in looking like you expect trouble, you will most often find it. That isn't to say that some skips won't be dangerous (always expect the unexpected), but we have found that for the most part, they are more likely to hide or run than fight when confronted. As one of my partners tells them, it is their job to run, and our job to catch them. They have to be right 100% of the time, and we only have to be right once . |

I think that you have to dress in a manner that works for you and your area of operation. I prefer casual non assuming look. That way I can slip up on a subject without a lot of fanfare. |
