Post subject:  INDIANA BAIL SITUATION UPDATE

I just received a copy of the tax payer law suit involving Herb Smith and the Citizens of Lake county. As some of you know they just won a victory regarding the credit card bonds.

It is eight pages in pdf format if you would like it then let me know.

below is an excerpt from an email forwarded to me from Herb Smith which was forwarded to him from Lee Sexton (the ISBAA president here in Indiana)

"Gentlemen:
I had an interesting conversation today with our friend Charlie Pride at the State Board of Accounts.
I asked him how the audit of Vermillion County was coming. Unfortunately, when I had called him several months ago his auditors had just left VC having completed their audit. It will be several months until they return. He had nothing to report.
The good news is that the SBA has revised it's audit procedure and it's forms and from now on will be specifically tracking these deposits.
When the discover a county that is improperly handling these deposits they intend to make a report of it to the Supreme Court and the Lawyer's Commission (?).
I asked if we could get the reports from those counties in default. Yes, they are public record and we can get them electronically.
Mr. Pride asked me to call him back at the end of September. He thought he would have info for me at that time.
I also sent him an e-mail asking him about the "form 217" that Herb Smith mentioned. He's looking at that as well.
While at the State Fair I stopped in at the Board of Education booth and talked with some important looking and acting lady and discussed this matter with her. She was genuinely concerned, took notes and told me she would forward the information to her superiors. I will follow up on that later as well.
Meanwhile, we have talked with Sen.'s Drozda, Clark and especially Senator Lubbers. She is particularly interested. (She was the Author of the Charter Schools bill.) I also have mentioned it in passing to Rep. Frizzell and Noe. We have a direct line in to the Secretary of State who has told me he will put me in direct touch with the right person at the A.G.'s office when the time is right.
I will keep you advised.

Regards, Les"

We need to start drumming up media attention in our areas. As I recall there was someone here in Indiana used to be associated with "tv". I have been attempting to get local media involved through emails... looks like I will be taking a copy of these things down myself to the stations and seeing if I can get some attention that way. I will also be filing a freedom of information act with the local pd and sherrif to see if I can get the information regarding the amount of cash bonds skips are out there as well as the amount not collected. I would suggest doing the same if you can.

While many of us do not have a bunch of spare cash sitting around to give, we can aid by doing other things, such as gathering the needed information and gaining public and media support in our areas.
